Procedure- What can I expect?
In this non-surgical treatment, a small amount of a natural highly purified protein is injected into selected muscles
to soften dynamic facial lines by blocking muscle contraction. The safe medical use of muscle relaxant injections for
over 30 years has allowed a smooth transition to its use for improving facial lines. Treatments take approximately 10
minutes, discomfort is minimal and brief, but you should not rub the area for several hours afterwards to avoid
dispersing the injection to other muscles.
Recovery
Slight swelling and redness may occur at the injection site but settles within minutes and can easily be covered with
mineral make-up if required. After your treatment you may go straight back to work or light exercise without restriction.
You will notice the effect of the treatment gradually over the next 3 to 7 days and it will not interfere with your normal
activities. The muscle relaxants are gradually reabsorbed by the body, therefore repeat injections are required every
three to five months to maintain results.
Botulinum Therapy will relax the facial muscles that cause expression lines. It does not cause more wrinkles to form.
If you choose not to have further treatment your muscles will eventually return to normal activity and your wrinkles
will gradually revert to their pre-treatment levels.
Are there any problems with muscle relaxing injections?
As with any medication it is possible for rare individuals to be allergic. This usually takes the form of a rash that
may last for 24 hours. Minor bruising at the site of the injection is also possible on occasion and may be readily
concealed with makeup. There are potential site-specific problems (such as bruising or eyelid droop) that should be
discussed with your injecting practitioner prior to use. There are no permanent side effects and there is no loss of
sensation.
