Protruding ears are one of the most common congenital abnormalities that people want to have corrected. They can be either unilateral or bilateral and form as a result of malformation of cartilage during ear development in life between conception and birth.
The first surgical ear correction was in 1845, and through the years, over 200 techniques have been documented with differing results however; it wasn't until early 1990, that the conventional method to ear correction was questioned.
It was soon discovered that ear correction could be achieved without having to cut into the cartilage or remove any skin. The use of headbands and bandages for long-term postoperative care was also found to be unnecessary.
Today the current trend is to lessen intervention, keeping it straightforward; therefore, minimising the risk of complications and downtime.
The first ear correction without incision (otoplasty) in Australia was administered by Dr. Longin Zurek in 2004. After conducting a number of surgical otoplasty procedures, Dr Zurek realised that the conventional intrusive surgical intervention was unnecessary to correct protruding ears. So, he replaced the surgical ear correction with a new non-invasive procedure.
Dr Zurek developed the no-incision otoplasty into a breakthrough and refined procedure. Originally, the non-incisional otoplasty was administered mainly on children with severely protruding ears, but gradually he customised his technique to all patients with varying degrees of protruding ears.

- The risk of infection is low
- Excellent cosmetic results
- No head bandages
- The procedure is quick and takes about one hour to complete

- Affordable cost
Dr Wells has been specialising in the field of non-invasive ear correction (otoplasty) for the past two years and he is the only doctor in Australia to be fully trained in this advanced procedure.
One of the many benefits of the no incision otoplasty is that it is performed under local anaesthetic, hence, allowing the patient to review how their ears look during the operation and therefore giving the patient greater autonomy over the final aesthetic outcome.
